Fruitless

Fruitless is a game I made alone for the InsanityJam 2014 over the course of about a week, by myself.

The idea of this jam is that everyone gets their own theme from a website which generates insane game ideas. My randomly generated theme was "A turn-based strategy game where you understand goths and your sidekick is a bird."

I developed this into a chess-like game about depression. In keeping with the theme and with my personal goals for a game, I wanted to create an experience that makes the player see what it's like to view the world through a depressive lens. I wasn't aiming to make a fun game one would want to play for hours, I wanted to make a game that gave a level of understanding, that made the player actually feel what it is like to the best of my ability.
